Made in America ....???

About 70 years ago a great man called for shunting foreign goods and to embrace and use goods made in their own country. Thus helping their own country's industries. It was also a way of revolting against the Colonial rule of British. The Great man was none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. For his countrymen, he was called Mahatma(the great one) aka Babuji ( Father). This policy was also the bases of economic reforms that followed Indian Independence. Up until 1991, India was very much following the protective, socialist policy. With the selection of Mr. Manmohan singh as the finance Minister, when the country was struggling with economic crisis, 1991 marked a new chapter in the Economic history of India. Basically opening up the Indian market for foreign investment and trade. India owes the current Economic boom to him and I'm happy that he is the prime minister of India. A leader respected around the world. Given the fact that we have very few leaders in Indian politics who command respect not by post but by action and intellect.

In contrast.. 2 different bills that mandate the Congress and the Department of Homeland Security to purchase only US-made goods were passed today in US. Now the intention is to same... " Encourage the local industry" but I hope they don't forget what history has also taught us that it makes a country void of new ideas and less competitive. Its already known fact that Asian kids beat American kids in education, hands down. And by raising the bar for entering into the country, America might just loose its edge.
