Of late I have been reading articles about politics in News media that sometimes it makes me wonder... What if we had the same strength in the media and technology during the days of Mahatma Gandhi?
One could argue that it would be a blessing. Mahatma would have been able to communicate his message about freedom to the people of India. He would have been able to mobiles the people with his action and people would be able to follow every move he makes. Imagine Mahatma Gandhi having a facebook page or a tweeter account. And on the media we would get to see/read what our Mahatma was thinking. One might even go on to claim that we could have gained our independence much earlier.
Reading the content of the content of news in the media today, I beg to differ. I think, we would have camera personal trying to track down each of the dharna’s of freedom fighters with the British. Television screen would be constantly flashed with the latti charge of the British and our brothers bleeding. Watching which our youth of the nation would invariably take up extremism and shunting Mahatma's ideology.
On the news channel we would have debates over whether Mahatma Gandhi was correct for taking up non violence and because of him innocent people were matching in front of the British soldiers to be either killed or badly injured? I don't think Mahatma would stoop to a level of explaining himself.. but then.. this would have made it difficult for him. And I also think, the media would be much more interested in his personal life then his action. I guess a strong media's absence was a blessing in disguise for Indians.
The reason for this blog has been that since couple of days, no matter how much I try.. I cannot find a single article which has a happy tone to it( Expect for youngest IIT prof) . Media has been filled with stories of honor killing, foreigner claiming to be raped, celeb committing suicide or going around with a new person, yatras by politician for one reason or the other, constant threat of terrorist, moist burning down school or killing CRPF jawans.
ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME, WE DON'T HAVE ANY NEWS RELATED TO PROGRESS INDIANS ARE MAKING ??
ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME, NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING FOR POOR PEOPLE??
As long as we have a mindset that "There is no good news as bad news" I wonder if things could ever change.. !!!!

Girl in the tram..
The other day, after the aperitivo, I took the tram to head back home. At one of the stops, a lady hoped on to the tram, she was about to sit next to me. I made space for her and the next thing I know, she was walking straight back..I was like "What ever.." In the next stop, a beautiful girl, of about 6 feet wearing shorts(showing of her long legs) climbed the tram. An easy 8 on 10 according to my western friends. Low behold, she sat next to me. She seemed to be an African (lighter shade of brown but curly hair).
With in few minutes, she opened her bang and out came her make up set. It was a bit weired for me and sitting next to her I could not directly see her. However I could see the expression on the faces of people, sitting in front of me. (180 deg view).
My eyes, first fell on a Arab guy. He was holding the hand bar trying to look down. His eyes had its own mind. It would find its way back to her over and over again. After sometime, we caught each other and all we could do was chuckle. Next my eyes fell on the old lady. Should have been in her 70's. As she was watching the girl next to me,the look in her eyes, was that of a lady who had a flashback of her younger days. She was so lost in her own thoughts that she almost forgot where she was suppose to get off. At the last moment she tried to get off but then door of the tram was closed. She did what most Italian do, curse the tram driver.
In the mean time the lady packed her brush and the box with color (I'm sorry but I'm a typical guy who is very ignorant about the make up kits of ladies). But then came out another box with other set of colors. I was like WTF... At first I wanted to engage her in a conversion, by comment how good it would have been if the trams had mirrors. But after seeing this I decided otherwise and to let the girl alone. I thought it was more interesting to read the faces of other co-passengers rather than talking to her.
My next object of interest was a guy in her late 20's. I thought the girl sitting next to him was his girl friend. However the guy was ogling at the long legs of the girl. :) and could not take his eyes off her.
Even the mosquito could not let the girl be in peace. It was troubling her so much that she could not sit still. It reminded of a small girl crying and shaking her leg to have her way.
The whole scene lasted for about 15 minutes. At the end of it, I was wondering what kind of girl could actually pull out her makeup set and fix herself in a crowded tram. I could think of only 2 possibilities. Either she was bimbo, to even care for other or too excited to meet her date (assuming she was straight) that she could not think of anything else.
Would I be right in thinking so.. ??
Girls.. never stop to amaze me..!!!
